Spain's Council of Ministers today authorized Spain's Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration to participate in our expansion in Spain with an investment of 753 million Euros through the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) as part of the PERTE chips program for DF's now fully funded $2.77B expansion in Spain.
Based on our successful experience with an initial greenfield "rough diamond" foundry in Trujillo, Spain, we will now expand our fabrication in Spain and scale to volume our most advanced and worldwide singular technology: single-crystal diamond (SCD) wafers.
SCD ingot growth capacity will be located in a building nearby DF's existing building in Trujillo's industrial park, the construction of which has now started in two shifts per day. Singulation of SCD ingots into wafers and their surface finish and cleanroom packaging will be located in Zaragoza.
DF's production of SCD wafers is as green as any tech manufacturing gets: converting the greenhouse gas methane into diamond crystal using zero-emission energy.
Advancing tech at its very foundation, SCD wafers make everything from AI chips to electric cars more energy efficient and powerful.
It is easy to underestimate the impact of a new wafer component being available because the pattern recognition for it needs to span decades. A new wafer has arrived once every few decades, in each case advancing the technology industry to previously unachievable levels.
